eksodus dari city of manchester

Ketidakjelasan masa depan pelatih City, Sven Goran Eriksson, konon memicu kepindahan beberapa pemain lain.

Rio Ferdinand tandatangani kontrak baru

manchester united juara berkat wasit

Bos Chelsea, Avram Grant, menyatakan wasit Steve Bennett membantu Manchester United memenangi liga primer.

Messi better than Ronaldo - Cole

Chelsea's Joe Cole says Barcelona's Lionel Messi is ahead of Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player in the world.

Cole said Messi's form in Barca's Champions League semi-final defeat by United settled the debate.

"Ronaldo's been fantastic but in the semi-final Messi showed he's the top man," said Cole, who will face Ronaldo in next week's Champions League final.

"He is only 20 as well, imagine how good he will be in the next 10 years."

Messi has been linked with a £80m move to Chelsea, and Cole admitted he would be delighted if the speculation proved to be true.

"If we could sign him, I'd love to play alongside him," he added.

Cole's comments will help to crank up the atmosphere ahead of Wednesday's final between United and Chelsea in Moscow.

Ronaldo is the most highly rated player in the English game and has been bestowed with awards for his scintillating form this season.

The 23-year-old's 31 league goals were instrumental in United's Premier League title success, and he was named both the Football Writers' Association footballer of the year and PFA player of the year for two years in a row.

But the Portugal winger has been accused of sometimes failing to sparkle on the big stage and many believed he was outshone by Messi over both legs of the Champions League semis.

Ronaldo scoops double award

Cristiano Ronaldo picked up the Barclays Player of the Season and the Barclays Golden Boot award.

The Manchester United star, 23, has been handed the prestigious Barclays Player of the Season accolade for the second year in succession following the 2007/8 campaign in which he picked up the Barclays monthly honours for January and March and played a pivotal role in United retaining the Barclays Premier League title.

Manchester United's 10th Barclays Premier League title was aided in no small part by Ronaldo's goal tally.

His 31 goals from 34 Barclays Premier League appearances saw the Madeira-born winger hold off stiff opposition from Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor and Fernando Torres of Liverpool to collect The Barclays Golden Boot award.

Ronaldo's final total represents the first time a player has scored more than 30 goals in a season since Alan Shearer's 31-goal haul for Blackburn Rovers 12 years ago. In addition to his award, Ronaldo will receive £1,000 for every goal scored to be donated to a charity of his choice.

Ronaldo has scored 66 goals in 161 Barclays Premier League matches since making his debut for Manchester United against Bolton Wanderers in August 2003.

He was named Barclays Player of the Season in 2007 and PFA Players' Player of the Year for 2007 and 2008.

Ferguson named manager of season

Sir Alex Ferguson has won the Barclays Manager of the Season award for the eighth time in his career.

Despite a stuttering start to the new Barclays Premier League season, which saw Ferguson's Manchester United fail to register a win in their opening three fixtures, they kick-started their campaign with a 1-0 home success over Tottenham Hotspur, which initiated an unbeaten run of nine matches, of which they won eight.

Ferguson's side continued to win admirers throughout the season with their free-flowing style of attacking football, and remained well placed at the top of the league for much of the campaign.

The decision was made by the Barclays Awards Panel, which includes representatives from football's governing bodies, the media and fans.

Following his appointment in November 1986, Ferguson has won a total of 28 trophies with Manchester United, including 10 Barclays Premier League titles between 1993 and 2008.

He has won the most Manager of the Year awards in Barclays Premier League history - this is his eighth - and he has also won more Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month awards than anyone else, with 21 in total.

Manchester United 17th title

Manchester United pipped rivals Chelsea to clinch their 17th title triumph with victory at Wigan.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for United from the spot after 33 minutes following Emmerson Boyce's foul on fit-again Wayne Rooney.

And substitute Ryan Giggs clinched United's Premier League triumph - his 10th - with a cool finish from Rooney's pass 10 minutes from time.

It sent manager Sir Alex Ferguson dancing down the touchline in the rain at the JJB Stadium in triumph as United were confirmed as champions, two points clear of runners-up Chelsea.

And for Giggs it was the perfect way to celebrate equalling United's appearance record of 758 games held by Sir Bobby Charlton, who was watching the game from the directors box.

United's second, plus a late equaliser for Bolton at Chelsea, sparked scenes of wild celebrations among the visiting fans who will now focus on the European Cup final in Moscow.
